Let it be an arms race

That final epithet writ large on a molten tombstone

A global division that runs as deep as atoms

The only words they’ll read of our burning home

Spelt out with vaporised flesh and empty promises

Haunted by the voices that dared to confuse greed with greatness

Let it be an arms race

Let it be no more

This place whose aching bones I scraped with my silver spoon

Where I built my palace on the backs of others

Let there be light

Let there be fireworks

Let it drown out the screams

The awful wails that accompany this final indignity

So that the only words they will hear

Are These:

Let it be an arms race
